Ardrossan Railway

From Railways

The Ardrossan Railway was formed by an Act of 23rd July 1840 which split the railway and canal interests of the Ardrossan and Johnstone Railway.

Apart from the split the act authorised conversion of the track from the Scottish Gauge to Standard Gauge and doubling (see Track Gauge).

The company was absorbed by the Glasgow and South Western Railway on 24th July 1854.
