Glasgow, Barrhead and Kilmarnock Joint Railway was formed on the 12th of July 1869 to take over the Glasgow, Barrhead and Neilston Direct Railway and a new line from Neilston to Kilmarnock via Stewarton (with a a branch from Lugton to Beith).
It was jointly owned by the Caledonian Railway and the Glasgow and South Western Railway.
