[edit] Description
Peppercorn development of the Thompson A2/3 with shorter wheelbase. Originally due to be a class of 35, 20 were cancelled due to the BR Interchange Trials. 60539, was built with a Kylchap exhaust and double chimney. In late 1949, 5 further members of the class had them retroactively fitted.
Only 60525 saw service under the LNER, it was put into service 4 days before the formation of British Railways.
